tough on the tootsies {part 1}

Bry's new job is in New York City. Every day, I drop him off at the train station in the morning and pick him up at night. When Friday came around, I decided it would be fun to meet him in the city. Well. I did meet him in the city, but the night did not go the way I thought it would.

The weather had predicted a few strong thunderstorms. I thought, "Hey, whatever, I'll just bring the umbrella.. No biggie!" I wanted to look nice, and considering Bry was in work clothes, so I took time before catching the train to blow-dry my hair and make myself look presentable. BIG MISTAKE.

I'm probably rambling at this point. I'll speed up a bit. I took the train into Grand Central and he met me there. We walked down to where his new job is. And right around the corner is Madison Square Park. We were waiting to hear from Brad and Jacki and decided to take some pictures while it was "sprinkling" out. Again, no biggie.. sprinkles, we can handle those.

trying not to be awkward :)

We decide to meet Brad and Jacki in Times Square. And then, the rain starts. We ran to the subway and took the subway back to Grand Central. We only had about 3 blocks to walk to Times Square but this happened...

umm, ya.. just a shower, right?

...and then, this happened

My flip-flops began breaking. With all the water flowing through the streets, the straps loosened and I would basically walk with my heel on the ground. This made me so sad, considering I'd bought these flip-flops the night we were engaged. What can I say? I'm a sentimentalist! So there we are in H&M buying $12 flats because you can't walk around Manhattan in bare feet.. As much as I would have liked to.

We went to dinner at John's Pizza and then went to Coldstone.

As we were heading home, Bry takes a few pictures of the city. Getting to know your new camera is pretty fun, but not for the other person waiting there who has blisters on her feet.

he has become quite the photographer

this is my "babe I'm so tired" face

finally in Grand Central

I was oh so glad to get on the train and sit down.

Part 2 coming soon...

puppy-crazed

So here in the Johnston apartment (that does not allow dogs-grrr), we have been talking about getting a dog. It's funny because Bry was never really a dog person, or an animal person for that matter. I think I have converted him for the better.

It's definitely something we are going to do, we just need to figure a few things out and make sure it's the right time. First, we need to move into an apartment that DOES allow dogs. Then, we need to figure out what kind of dog we get. Hubby wants a husky, while I want a mini-goldendoodle (golden retriever poodle mix). But as I said, the timing is not right. SOON though!

Speaking of dogs, tomorrow- July 25- would have been my doggie's 14th birthday. So sad Tonga isn't here anymore, but I can only remember the good days with him.

Tonga:
-the dog who could let himself out into the backyard
-the dog who ate my baby teeth we had saved in a ziplock bag
-the dog who ran through the electric fence toward a cow and then got so startled he ran right back out
-the dog who would sleep on my bed every night
-the dog who ate panty-hose and we had to shoot peroxide down his throat with a turkey baster and make him run around the yard to throw up
-the dog who had possibly the worst gas EVER
-the most loyal, polite, kind, cuddly 100-pound dog I've ever known.

Man, I miss my "Tonga-Bonga-Bookies" so much!

Even though Bry didn't used to be a "dog-person", he admitted to liking Tonga a lot. I'm sure he'll LOVE our doggie!

Miss you Bookies.

Ps. Is it a coincidence that "All Dogs Go to Heaven" is on TV right now? I think not. :)

my first awkward & awesome thursday!

Last week, I found the daybook blog, which is written by Sydney, a young fashionista blogger. She created the idea of Awkward and Awesome Thursdays, and I'm all about it. So I'm gonna try it out.. hopefully it's not too awkward.. ummm haha.....ha?

awkward
-Brushing my teeth in the shower this morning and realizing that I'm using hubby's toothbrush. This wouldn't be half as bad if I didn't catch him using MY toothbrush a few days ago...
-I am ready for fall to come and its literally mid-July. I can't wait to have crisp weather, watch the leaves change, and wear fall clothes. Guess I'll have to stick out the 80 degrees for a couple more months.
-Passing a man in the mall today. I'm pretty sure he thought he knew me; however, I NEVER forget a face, and after he smiled at me and starting walking toward me, I buried my face in my phone and walked slightly away from him. eeeks- sorry guy!
-The fact that this blog has NO picture to go along with it today :(

awesome
-Hubby's contract that came in yesterday- he landed a temporary job working on a special project for a bank in NYC. After 4 months of not working, the poor guy is SO stir-crazy. So glad he'll have something to do for a few months! Go BRYYY!
-The fact that my Thursdays seem to FLY by. On Thursdays, I typically babysit from 8-1, tutor for an hour and a half, and then babysit again (about 5-10pm).
-The $$ I make from working a Thursday...Hello shopping this weekend :)

Happy almost weekend everyone!

it's been a while...

But I'm back! Here's what I've been up to in the past (four-ish) months

ATLANTA
In March, Bry and I decided to take a trip to Atlanta to visit his brother and sister-in-law. We drove- which was definitely the longest road trip I'd ever taken.. even when we split it into two days.
Bry drove most the way, and I tried to stay awake for most of the time, but I did sleep a little :)
...and here's a few places we visited:
Piedmont Park

Georgia Aquarium

and to top it off, Bry found a four-leaf clover!

BABY SHOWER
Jenni-Rae, my bestest friend growing up, is having a baby!! Yaaay!

and while there were many babies and baby-things at the shower, my favorite part was Marty, a cutie little Goldendoodle (Golden Retriever Poodle mix)
...boy, do I have puppy fever!

BEVERLY
Ahh I miss the Boston area!

We went mini-golfing with Brit, one of my bestest friends from college!

and lastly, NEWPORT
Jenni-Rae and I took a little trip to Newport, RI for some girl-time.

^Isn't she the most beautiful 7-months-preggo that you have ever seen? Get here soon Baby V!

Oh, and in the past month, I've finished my first year of teaching. Big accomplishment in my book. But for the summer, babysitting it is. And that's where I need to be in 9 hours. Off to sleep for me!
