diy factory cart coffee table!

we finished our table! la la la! i am so excited to have this new little addition to our living room.

this is the old ikea coffee table...equipped with unstable legs and a bowing lower level that we used for too much storage.
that guy is now gone {and please excuse the cluttered room}. we've now replaced it with the factory cart coffee table {view here on pinterest}

ta da! it's done!

here's the scoop...
i found the idea for this table on pinterest. from there, i researched the two projects i found on making this table. here's the two sources we used: ana white's version and shanty2chic's version. we followed closer to shanty2chic's plans.

here's a few pictures of the process:
we bought wood in the sizes necessary and cut the wood to the measured amounts

note: when i say "we", i basically mean bry. i was the organizer/encourager/assistant of this project... however, i only did about 25% of it, while he did most of the work...

i did spray paint the wheels though! :)

after the first coat of stain

almost ready for the wheels

also, the assistant in me does things like this

attaching the wheels! yippee it's in our apartment!

it's here it's here! and it's much smaller than our other table! the only thing i'm wishing we had was a little storage space

and there you have it! we love our new coffee table. we're kinda proud that we built it ourselves. however, upon previous thinking, we did not save much money by doing it ourselves. we spent around $160 on all materials. we also put in probably 10 hours of work. but i think it was well worth it :)

if you have any questions or specifics, let me know!

over the last 19 years, we've become the best of friends

i've talked about my bestest friend, jenni-rae, often on this little blog. she's the mom of gabe, my little nephew who i'm always raving about. jenn and i have shared so many moments together. most stages of our lives have been shared with one another... except the diaper stage. we met in kindergarten and have been friends ever since. bry and i love spending time with the ventling family.

well.. jenn, brandon, and gabriel are moving to alabama in two weeks. God is leading them there. while i am not a fan of this situation, i am so proud of them for following God's plan for their lives. and while it will literally crush me to say goodbye to my bestest friend, her hubby, and my sweet little nephew, i am already looking forward to her frequent visits back home. i also love that it'll only be for 2 years.

jenn has started a blog to write about her life. her writings are inspiring and much deeper than mrs. elementary school teacher over here. plus she's extra crafty and has big plans to post many of her fabulous crafts! go check out a rae of hope. you won't regret it.

forty days

I'm grabbin my Starbucks cup and I'm going to use it for the next 40 days. Don't worry, I'll make sure to wash it every so often :) Bry and I are taking part in 40 Days to Bring Clean Water to Uganda. This mission encourages people to give up all drinks (coffee, tea, soda, juice, beer, wine, etc) for water. The money that you would spend on those drinks is then donated to this project for clean water in Uganda. So from today to April 7, we are only drinking water. I know this will be tough for my coffee-drinker of a husband, and I'm sure going to miss a good glass of Cab. But there is so much more in the world. We are trying to do this for Uganda, but also for ourselves. To see how much we spend just on beverages alone. And to see how we feel with just water in our systems {poor guy might have a few slow, dragging days without his coffee fix}. But we can do this. And we're going to try our best.

If you want to learn more, please click the link above to read up! It begins today, but any little donation can help!

valentine's day recap

our valentine's day was low-key. i wanted a nice meal so i cooked. well, bry grilled steaks and i cooked up a mean roasted veggie side. then we both were exhausted and literally climbed into bed at 8pm. i turned on the notebook {my fave}. bry admitted to me that he wants to be just like the movie- where noah and allie die next to each other in their sleep {he's also posted several articles on my fb of real life couples that this has happened to}. he's the absolute cutest ever.

winter bums

Well. There hasn't been much going on here.. We've been in chill mode for quite some time now. This happened last winter, where both Bry and I just bum out for a little while and don't do very much. I haven't felt very compelled to blog so I left it alone. Sooo... sorry bloggy. I'm hoping I'll be back and blogging more consistently soon.

We did have company this weekend, more than we initially thought we would have. A few pictures will be coming soon.

Also, I've started taking part in the February Photo Challenge going on.. And I'm loving it! Follow me on Instagram for my daily photos: @alilynnjohnston

In other news, knitting has been my thing lately. I think knitting has taken over my blogging time. But I did make an infinity scarf! Ta-da!

I'm off to get alot of sleep- Mondays are rough! K, seeyabye.
